"Healthier" Twix Protein Bars



I've been on the no carb, no dairy, no sugar kind of diets before and to be honest with you, they're not fun!


We've all been there. We see an old friend that lost weight and looks Ah-mazing. She tells you what her secret was, and it doesn't seem that hard - you think if she can do it, then so can I. You're overcome with a wave of inspiration and motivation to achieve this weight-loss goal. You are ready. Expect you're not. You did everything you thought you were supposed to do, and maybe you did lose weight and did see some changes but after time you fell back into old habits and you reversed all the changes. You really thought that THIS time was going to be different.


Carb-restriction is usually an unhealthy approach for women’s health because low-carb dieting can backfire and impact hormones over time. The body’s preferred energy source comes from glucose, which you can only get from carbohydrates. When you aren’t getting enough glucose from complex carbohydrates, your cortisol levels increase, leading to weight gain. When the stress hormone, cortisol, is elevated this can suppress the thyroid, elevate estrogen, and slow down metabolism




You can't just copy what someone else does without understand the impact it has on your body. There is no one size fits all and in the end, the diet and workout program is only one piece of the puzzle.


What really matters is the story you believe about yourself, your beliefs, values. Your emotional and mental health is so important to take care of if you want to create a transformation in your body. Once you stop thinking like your old self (the one that got you into this mess), then you can say goodbye to her and embrace the powerful women that you know you are, deep inside. You can't do that kind of deep work on a no-carb diet. ;)

Protein Twix Bar Recipe

Makes about 16 squares


Base:

1 cup Coconut Flour

1/3 cup Unsweetened Shredded Coconut

4 scoops Arbonne FeelFit Vanilla Protein

1/2 cup Coconut Oil

1/3 cup Honey


Filling:

1/2 cup Smooth Natural Peanut Butter

1/3 cup Honey


Topping:

3-4 medium Size, 70% Cocoa Lindt Dark Chocolate

1 Tsp Coconut Oil


Directions:

Combine the dry ingredients in a bowl. In a separate bowl on the stovetop (or carefully in the microwave), melt the coconut oil and then add the honey. Stir until combined.


Add the coconut oil mixture into the dry ingredients and combine. Press the mixture into an 8x8 baking dish lined with parchment paper. It should stick together well and not be too crumbly. Note: If the dough is dry, add more melted coconut oil and honey.


Melt the peanut butter and honey together on the stovetop (or in the microwave), stirring until combined.


Pour over the base and smooth out with a spatula.


Chill in the fridge for 5–10 minutes. Melt the chocolate and the coconut oil together until smooth.

Pour the chocolate over the second layer and chill in the fridge until set.

Remove from the pan and cut into squares. Store in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer.
